When couples begin planning their wedding, they will have to make several considerations. These range from the theme or style of the wedding, what they will wear and what style they want, where they will get married, who they will invite and much more. Among all these decisions is hiring a wedding photographer. The big day will be filled with so many special moments, and while nerves and excitement may seem like the moment will last forever, the reality is there will be so much happening on the day, in so many different areas, a lot will be missed or forgotten. This is why every bride and groom needs pictures of their special day. But, how do they select a photographer?
Set a Budget
It is important to have a budget in mind before the search for a photographer begins. This will help prevent any misunderstandings, or mistakes, as well as potential disappointment. Once the couple has a set their price ranges, lowest to highest amount they are willing to spend, they can begin to compare photographers, based on their skills, style and prices. One thing couples must keep in mind is if something seems “too good to be true”, it probably is, and the person is not a genuine professional. Like everyone else, photographers have to make a living too. If someone is offering a jaw dropping price, they are likely a ”cowboy”, and the couple should move on and keep looking.
Do the Research
Couples can check the internet for photographers in their location or the location where they will be married if they are having a destination wedding. Couples should keep in mind that a website expert built the photographer website. So, a professional, high quality website does not equate to a professional, high quality photographer. Couples should also be aware that while references are a good thing, they should not go solely by the reviews on the photographers website as they will not publish bad reviews on their own site. Who would? The bride and groom will want to check other websites, such as forums and internet phone directories to get a more rounded picture of the photographer’s quality.
They can also ask their friends and family who have used photographers or know people who have for advice, tips and suggestions. Once the couple has short-listed some professional photographers, they can then move on to the next step.
Once the bride and groom have selected a few photographers whose portfolio suits what they have in mind, they should begin contacting the individual photographers to ask about their wedding package prices. The couple will also want to ask what is included in the package, and ask about any potential discounts that may be available. It is important to make detailed notes of all the information provided by each photographer to be able to compare them accurately. It would be a good idea to ask each one to email all the details so that there are no mistakes, misunderstandings or forgotten details. This also makes comparing packages and prices easier.
Make a Selection
Once the couple have eliminated photographers who charge beyond their budget, or do not offer as much in their wedding photography packages, they will have narrowed their choices to a few they prefer based on price, package and skill. They should now have a list up to ten photographers to interview. This is an important step in the process.
